Chandrakant is a tailor by occupation. He was an unfortunate victim of a terrible hit and run accident in 2014. The accident happened in the heart of the city when Chandrakant was walking on foot and was knocked down by a car. The accident broke both his wrists, his thigh bone (femur) in two places, his leg bone (tibia) and multiple bones in his right foot. His foot was literally crushed with an open bleeding wound. We took him up for surgery within a few hours of the accident.
Multiple sequential surgeries were performed in what turned out to be a marathon that lasted many hours. We were successful in fixing all his fractures and physiotherapy was started right away. Slowly but steadily Chandrakant got back to his feet and his work. All his fractures healed well. The quick surgery and immediate physiotherapy ensured that he didn’t develop any stiffness which is common in such multiply injured limbs. It was heartening to see him get back to stitching in spite of 2 broken wrists. He is now headed for Implant removal surgery to get all the ‘hardware’ out from his limbs.
